The 2024 Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is the premier Christmas event for Southern California. With more than 116 years of history, the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade Of Lights is viewed by over two million people each year. Another competition called the “Ring Of Lights” has Bayfront estates competing for top honors in all out holiday décor & light displays.

Newport Beach begins its holiday decorations after Thanksgiving, and by the first of December, the harbor is richly illuminated with millions of lights and hundreds of themed estates. The Newport Beach Boat Parade of Lights takes place over 5 nights from Wednesday December 18th, 2024 to Sunday, December 22nd, 2024.

Newport Landing provides 3 cruises each night of the parade and throughout the month of December to view the amazing light displays. 🎅 Over a dozen local marching bands, 100 entries, floats designed by Long Beach businesses and associations, marching bands, and local personalities and dignitaries, all make this the hometown favorite to get you in the holiday spirit. Belmont Shore loves the holidays and is adorned with light pole banners with festive holiday symbols and sentiments.

🎅 No Christmas Parade would be complete without an appearance by St. Nick! Entries return to Livingston Avenue heading west along the north side of East Second Street.

🎅 The parade route is along East Second Street and begins heading east from Livingston Avenue to Bayshore Avenue

🎅 East 2nd St. closes to traffic at 5 p.m., which is the signal for spectators to set up chairs and blankets for a front row seat to the parade. Floats are judged based on execution of theme, originality of design, and spectator appeal.

This event is FREE and open for all ages.

In an anthology unlike any other, 𝘞𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 brings together over 20 queer Black comic writers and illustrators to create a collection of sci-fi and fantasy comics and art from perspectives often shut out from popular fiction. From interdimensional and intergalactic exploration to tales of witches, merfolk, and monsters, the volume showcases a wide range of stories and styles that reflect the unlimited possibilities of afrofuturism.

𝗩𝗶𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗧. 𝗞𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 is an Associate Director of Student Life at Occidental College and is a writer and co-host and co-creator of MEGASHEEN, a podcast on geekdom and queer large.

Editors Kerney and Tyler won the 2024 Kinnard Better Future Award for their work on 𝘞𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 which features the works of Valerie Complex, Jay Hero, E.B. Hutchins, Paul Kellam, Rupert Kinnard, Ajuan Mance, and Joe Phillips, among others.

Talk about a high vibe night like no other!

As we approach the end of one year and the beginning of another, take a break from holiday stress in the company of other book lovers with some relaxing end-of-year journaling. In this simple 1-hour workshop led by local artist 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼, you’ll be guided through a series of easy, open-ended writing prompts to get centered and make this annual transition with a little more peacefulness and clarity. No experience is required and all materials are provided. If you wish, you can bring your own notebook and a pen.

This workshop is offered by donation and all are welcome. If you donate $25, you can also take home one of Sharna’s hand-painted 5×7 journals. Her books, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘵𝘶𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 and 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥 & 𝘍𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸, will also be available for purchase, as well as hand-painted blank journals and original artwork.

The workshop takes place inside Page Against the Machine on 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴𝘁𝗵 and will begin promptly at 𝟭𝟬:𝟬𝟬𝗮𝗺. Arrive a bit early and get your inspiration flowing with a coffee or morning beverage of choice right next door at Gusto Bead or right across the street at Coffee Drunk!

𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 is a choreographer by training and completed an MFA in Dance at UCLA in 2014. She is a certified yoga instructor and life coach and studied painting with Flora Bowley in Oregon. She is interested in the process of discovery and intuitive choice-making, and the connection between inner state and artistic craft. She has lived in Long Beach since 2016.

As the historic heart of Los Angeles, Downtown is a complex and confusing ecosystem, where the old town and the new city collide and the past is always present.

Join Esotouric for an immersive time travel trip that aims to give you the tools you need to actually understand how Downtown got this way and anticipate where it might go next, as you explore Victorian time capsule interiors, Prohibition-era speakeasy tunnels, and modernist redevelopment towers, ride a funicular and explore the ruins of an elevated people mover system that never was, all on a three hour tour like no other.

Starting from Grand Central Market, a culinary destination for more than a century, we’ll set out to explore the original Jewelry District, seek out remnants of the streetcar system, admire prominent Broadway Theater District and fashion industry landmarks, make a rare interior visit to Arts & Crafts tile master Ernest Batchelder’s Dutch Chocolate Shop and pay tribute to architect John Parkinson in his namesake square and at the hardscape Pershing Square where his beloved 1910 park design is still all anyone wants to talk about.

Then it’s all aboard Angels Flight Railway to ascend to the new Bunker Hill, where native son Gordon Pattison will be our guide hunting for the ghosts of the lost Victorian neighborhood hiding among the shining modern towers. You’ll track the ragged path of the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Plan, see hidden gardens, art installations and landscaped public plazas, and learn about the Angelenos who were displaced and the planners and builders who sealed their doom.

This walking tour draws on original research to tell the real stories of Downtown Los Angeles and is illustrated with rare photos you can view on your smartphone.
