There’s something about a Long Beach evening that already feels like art. The ocean air. The view of the ocean sky. It’s that chill part of the evening where people show up, settle in, and let the night take its time.
Sunsets at LBMA taps into exactly that — and on Thursday, June 26, from 5 to 8:30 PM, the Long Beach Museum of Art invites you to do what summer evenings are meant for: slow down, make something, feel something.
The vibe is on point: curated vinyl sets, hands-on workshops, and one of the most meaningful exhibitions of the season — The Art of Food. It’s free, open to all, and rooted in something bigger than just a night out. It’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the pleasure of being fully present.
At the center of it all is The Art of Food, a traveling exhibition from the University of Arizona Museum of Art and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation. The show brings together a powerhouse of postwar and contemporary artists — Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Jenny Holzer, Ed Ruscha, Lorna Simpson, David Hockney — all exploring the ritual, symbolism, and beauty of what we eat. It’s sensory and personal, pop and political. It’s about food, but it’s also about memory, identity, and connection.

But don’t expect a quiet, look-and-leave museum visit. Sunsets is designed for engagement.
🎧 Good Luck Vinyl Club will be on deck spinning warm, analog grooves from a curated vinyl collection — soul, funk, deep cuts, and global sounds that hit you in the chest before you even realize you’re swaying. It’s music meant for vibing, not just listening.
🖌️ Over at the screenprinting station, Open Gallery is offering a hands-on workshop where guests can pull their own print of The Art of Food logo onto a tote (while supplies last). No experience needed. Just curiosity and maybe a little muscle.
🎨 And local artist Lena Vieiro is leading a still life watercolor workshop inspired by the exhibition. Using 3-in-1 watercolor pencils, it’s accessible, calming, and rooted in the kind of personal reflection that still life painting invites. Whether you’re a seasoned creative or just feeling inspired, all materials are provided — just show up.
The best part? It’s all happening against the backdrop of the Pacific, on the bluff where the museum sits — a quiet, familiar corner of Long Beach that always manages to feel a little cinematic when the sun sets just right.
This isn’t just an art event. It’s a mood. A reminder that museums are for everyone. That art doesn’t have to be intimidating. That community feels like music and ink and color and breath.
